Words and Pictures is Nu:Tone’s eagerly anticipated third album. The album is vocal heavy featuring some of the top singers of the moment such as Heidi Vogel known for her work with Cinematic Orchestra, Ben Westbeech, house vocalist Lisa Millett and ofcoarse Natalie Williams who has featured on all of Dan’s albums. The album also features Dan’s very talented brother Logistics and not forgetting the mighty 4Hero. There is a great mixture of songs on the album from the Jungle influenced ‘Do You Like It’ to the atmospheric ‘The Love Has Gone’. The lead single ‘Shine In’ which features Natalie Williams has been going down a storm in the clubs, it seems to me like it will be a big hit after seeing the crowd go off when Natalie and Dan performed a live PA at Hospitality at Fabric earlier in the month.
But we wouldn’t except any less from Dan who, as well as being an exceptionally talented musician is a fantastic engineer. We predict this album doing very well.
Dan took some time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions.
C. What were your intentions for your third album?
I really wanted to push the vocal aspect of my production – both in terms of the proportion of vocals and also my approach to them. Rather than sticking a remotely recorded vocal on top of an instrumental, I really wanted to be more involved in the writing process with all the vocalists where possible, and to ensure that the music behind the vocal was as integrated as possible. I wanted the music to react to the vocal, and vice versa.
C. Do you have any more live PA’s planned for the near future?
Apart from the Album Launch, I’m going to be playing a whole host of PA’s with Natalie Williams over the next few months, both in the UK and across Europe.
C. Have you ever considered doing a fully live set?
Yes most definitely. Although it’s not something I have lined up at the moment, it’s definitely on the radar. I don’t think I’ll be going down the London Elektricity route, with a full band, drummer, percussionist, etc. But at the same time, it won’t be me standing behind a laptop and playing loops. I expect it will be somewhere between the two!
C. When and where will your album launch be?
For the very first time, Hospitality will be visiting Cambridge in association with Spoonfed (the D&B night I’m involved in organising). The event will be at the Junction, a long established home for some of the biggest dance music events in East Anglia. The lineup is looking pretty heavyweight, and I’m really excited to play at such a big night in my home town!
